Wes Coulson discusses why it’s important to start Alzheimer’s planning as soon as possible. Doing so will allow the family member with Alzheimer’s to have as much control over their care and life savings as possible.
Hi, I’m Wes Coulson, and this is your Elder Law Minute. Today’s message goes out to the families of someone who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, especially those families where the Alzheimer’s family member is early on in the disease process.
We like to encourage people to do that planning as soon as possible, even in some cases before they’ve received a formal diagnosis. Here’s the reason: We want, to the greatest extent possible, for that family member to have as much control as they can over their destiny, over what’s going to happen to them in terms of their care, over what’s going to happen in terms of their life savings. It’s best if we can do the planning at a point in time where the Alzheimer’s family member is able to participate personally. It gives them a lot of control over their destiny. Thanks!
