In this Elder Law Minute, Wes Coulson discusses the potential impact on your planning from the election results.
Transcript:
I’m actually recording this before the election, so at the time that I’m recording this, I don’t know what the election results are going to be. But, I can speak to the subject of the election results and your planning anyway, because here’s the deal:
In any election, somebody is happy with the results and there are other people who are disappointed or worse with the results. But administrations, state and federal, change over time and each new administration is going to do its own thing, place its own mark on things, so laws are going to change – Sometimes in predictable ways and sometimes in unpredictable ways.
There really is though, a lesson in that for you and your planning, and that is that in any situation in which there are things that you don’t have any control over, the object is to control everything as much as you can. We pride ourselves in putting together estate and long-term care asset preservation plans that are built to withstand the test of time, built to withstand changes in laws and policies, with built in flexibility to respond to anything that changes over time.
It’s up to you. You don’t have to complain about the results of the election. You don’t have to fret or fear. What you really need to do is to take control by putting your own plan in place. That, we will be happy to help you with.
