Hi, I’m Wes Coulson and this is your Elder Law Minute. I want to invite you to attend one of our Don’t Go Broke in the Nursing Home workshops. I want to tell you what you are going to learn if you attend.
We’re going to focus on the single biggest threat to your ability, as an older person, to leave an inheritance for your family – and that is long-term care costs. A lot of people underestimate that risk. They think it won’t happen to them. They don’t realize that if it does, that it could truly wipe out your entire life savings.
We’re going to talk about how you can effectively address that concern with something called Asset Preservation Planning. I’ll explain what it is, how it works, how it’s going to work for you, and how it’s going to put you in control of your financial future. We’re going to talk about the advantages of that planning in terms of being able to qualify for government assistance to help pay for long-term care you need. Two types:
- VA Benefits if you’re a war-time veteran or married to or widowed from one;
- Medicaid for anybody who may need nursing home care.
We’ll explain those programs. We’ll talk about what you can do to qualify and how planning can be critical in enabling you to successfully qualify for benefits. We’re going to debunk an awful lot of myths and misconceptions that people have about the programs, particularly Medicaid. We’re going to explain how the common misconception that this five-year look-back rule means that it’s probably too late for you to do anything. It is just wrong. I’m going to tell you how we are able to help people at any stage, even people who are already in a nursing home, protect at least half of their life savings from being lost to long-term care costs.
I promise you, you’re going to learn a lot. You’re going to be very glad that you attended. So, please join us. Thanks.
