Levels of Veterans Pension Benefits
Transcript:
This is the first of our series of presentations on Veterans Pension Benefits. Today I’d like to talk about the three levels of benefits. We start with the Base Pension, the only disability requirement is being age 65 or above. Unfortunately for financial reasons, not many people qualify for this. It is particularly helpful when it’s the veteran’s spouse rather than the veteran who needs care. The second is called Housebound, and basically the requirement is that the applicant has to be substantially housebound. It doesn’t mean never leave the house, but basically needs help when out on a limited basis. The highest level of benefits is called Aid & Attendance. Several ways to qualify for it – there are two automatic qualifiers if you are blind or in a nursing home, and the others are based on care needs, basically that you need help on a regular and ongoing basis for daily living.
