Hi! I’m Wes Coulson from Dent-Coulson Elder Law, proudly serving clients throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area and beyond. I’d like to welcome you to our Elder Law and Estate Planning Minute. We do these to help educate people, give them some little tips, and especially to let them know the questions they need to ask, things that they’ve maybe not thought of. Our thought on that is that we can help you best if you realize the things that you need help and that we can help you with. So I hope you enjoy. Thanks!
This is another, in a series of videos on nursing home rights and remedies, and, the one I want to talk about today is: the right to bring a lawsuit for personal injuries, or death, caused by a nursing home’s negligence, or any actions of abuse.
Let me start with clearing up a few things. First of all, that’s not normal, and it’s not right. You don’t accept negligence that causes an injury to your loved one or any actions of abuse as something that just happens sometimes in nursing homes. No, it doesn’t need to, and you don’t need to accept it. Second, if a nursing home just says “well, that was this, or that, staff member, and we’ve let them go”, first of all, thank you that they did that, that’s a responsible thing to do, but if your loved one has already sustained some sort of serious injury, the fact that they let that person, eventually, go, doesn’t excuse it from happening.
So, quick lesson here, I’m not a personal injury lawyer, and I don’t handle that type of case, but I have a good, on-going relationship with some lawyers who are very good at it, and very successful at it, and who also care a great deal about seniors. So, if your loved one has suffered any sort of serious injury as a result of what seems, to you, to be negligence or abuse on the part of the nursing home or any member of the staff of the nursing home, please give me a call and we will get in the right direction. And, see if what happened is something that you have a remedy for. Thanks!
