For many of us, pets become close members of the family. So, it stands to reason, providing for pets in an estate plan just makes sense. Pet Trusts allow for just that. In this Elder Law Minute, Wes Coulson along with his dear friend Ziggy discuss Pet Trusts and how they may be set up for your special family member.
Pet Trusts: Providing for pets in your estate plan
Transcript:
Hi, I’m Wes Coulson with my pet and dear friend Ziggy here for your estate planning minute, talking to you about something that is near and dear to my own heart, and that is providing for pets in your estate plan. Like for many of us, Ziggy here is a close member of my family. I’ve got good news for you, that’s a lot easier than you may think. By statute, both Missouri and Illinois have provided for something called a Pet Trust. You just set aside money, say who you want to be in charge of it, and the statute does the rest of taking care of that for you. So, it’s actually quite and easy and inexpensive thing to include in your estate plan. Thanks.
