Hi! I’m Wes Coulson from Coulson Elder Law, proudly serving clients throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area and beyond. I’d like to welcome you to our Elder Law and Estate Planning Minute. We do these to help educate people, give them some little tips, and especially to let them know the questions they need to ask, things that they’ve maybe not thought of. Our thought on that is that we can help you best if you realize the things that you need help and that we can help you with. So I hope you enjoy. Thanks!
One of you, or a loved one, needs a level of care that can’t be provided at home, but not the type of care that’s needed in nursing home care. So, the answer there is assisted living, which raises the question: does Medicaid pay for assisted living? In Illinois, fortunately the answer is yes, but only in particular ones. Those would be the ones that are participating in what’s called the Supportive Living Facility Program. That’s some assisted living, not all. If you Google Illinois Supportive Living Facility it will take you to a website that will list the ones there.
But, I want everybody to know, because I’ve visited so many of them, that these tend to be very nice facilities. You would be happy to be there, you would be happy to have your loved one there. And, they offer the opportunity to get Medicaid Assistance to pay for that level of care. Thanks!
