In this Elder Law Minute, Wes Coulson talks about the advantages of continuing care retirement communities. These communities feature all levels of senior care housing, from independent living to nursing home care, within one campus. These facilities provide a smooth transition from one level of care to another, as well as allowing couples with different care needs to live in the same facility.
Hi, I’m Wes Coulson and this is your Elder Law Minute. If you’re an older person and you’re looking into potential care options, either now or in the future, you might be wise to consider something that’s referred to as a continuing care retirement community or a CCRC. What that refers to is a situation in which all levels of senior housing, from independent housing to assisted living up to nursing home care, are all available within the same campus. They’re great for transitions from one level of care to another. If you will, if you move on, others who have been in your situation before you have already done that, so you won’t be going into a group of strangers. And certainly for a married couple, where one spouse may need care, the advantage of having them both there in the same location has a lot to be said for. So, if you’re in that situation, it’s certainly a good option to consider. Thanks!
