In this Elder Law Minute, Crystal Post explains why properly funding your revocable living trust is essential to avoid probate and ensure your estate plan works as intended.
Hi, I’m Crystal Post. I’m the new junior associate at Dent Coulson Elder Law. I’m really hoping that these Elder Law Minutes provide some insight and understanding to complex issues that everyday people face in the estate planning journey.

I’m going to briefly talk about the importance of funding your revocable living trust. Funding your revocable living trust is a critical step in the estate planning process after you sign all your documents where you retitle your assets to be owned by the trust. If you don’t make sure that your assets are owned by the trust, it defeats the primary purpose of creating a trust and can cause your estate to end up in probate.
So, some let their documents sit as a stack of papers and they just delay this critical funding step. Maybe they’re overwhelmed or just think that that part is daunting. Depending on the situation and the types of assets, it can get a little complicated. And assisting with the funding process is something we do all the time here. So, feel free to give us a call.
